‘Kimi no Na wa.’ Film Dominates box Office in Japan for Three Weeks Gaining 6.2 Billion yen

The tear-jerking original anime film, Kimi no Na wa. film successfully earns a total of 6.2 billion yen (estimated US$60 million). The movie dominates box offices in Japan for three weeks.

Kimi no Na wa. anime movie even beat the motion picture Suicide Squad, reports CrunchyRoll. Moreover, the new Godzilla film is said to require at least 38 days to cross the six-billion-yen mark.


The movie follows the story of Mitsuha, a high school girl who is currently living in the countryside, according to Mitsuha dreams to live in the city.

Taki, on the other hand, is a high school student who resides in Tokyo with his friends. After Taki finishes  his class, he works as a part-time employee in an Italian restaurant. Apart from studying and doing part-time, Taki also devotes himself in fine arts.

Taki and Mitsuha do not know each other. Taki dreams about himself as a girl attending a school in the countryside. As for Mitsuha, she dreams about herself as a guy.

The voice cast for the anime film include: Mone Kamishiraishi as Mitsuha Miyamizu, Kamiki Ryunosuke as Taki Tachibana, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Tsutomu Fujii, Kanon Taki as Miyamizu Yotsuha, Etsuko Ichihara as Hitoha Miyamiza, Aoi Yuuki as Sayaka Natori, Masami Nagasawa as Miki Okudera, Ishikawa Kaito as Masahiro Takagi and Ryou Narita as Katsuhiko Teshigawara.

The original creator Makoto Shinkai is also the movie director, script writer and handles the storyboard.  You Yamada served as the sound director while Masashi Andou directed the animation. Eiko Morikawa is assigned on the sound effects.

Masayoshi Tanaka designed the characters while Mateusz Urbanowicz created the background art. Gen Fukunaga is the executive producer.

Kimi no Na wa. anime film  began airing on Aug. 26, 2016. It runs  one hour and 46 minutes.
