MLB Rumors: Lucroy trade deal vetoed, Mets and Rangers still interested in catcher

As the Cleveland Indians were celebrating their pre-trade deadline win with the acquisition of Yankees relief pitcher, Andrew Miller, they were already planning a second welcoming party for Brewers catcher, Jonathan Lucroy. But in a shocking move, Lucroy vetoed the trade on Sunday, citing that the Indians are one of eight teams on his no-trade list.

The other seven teams are reportedly the Angels, Athletics, Mariners, Nationals, Padres, Tigers and Twins.

Specific details of his decision are sparse and unclear, but what is definite is that the Lucroy trade deal between Milwaukee and Cleveland has already been put to rest.

“When you are dealing with life-changing, life-altering decisions like this, there are a lot of factors that come into play, mostly family,” he said before Sunday’s game against the Pirates. “The other half of that is your future in this league and your career. There are a lot of different things to take in. Whenever those things don’t line up, decisions have to be made that might be tough, but that’s the way it has to be.”

Milwaukee General Manager David Stearns has stated that the Brewers will now move forward, after Lucroy’s decision. Since then, the Texas Rangers and the New York Mets are rumored to have maintained their interest in acquiring Lucroy.

Lucroy, one of the best offensive catchers in the sport, made the All-Star team last month. He has been hitting .300, has recorded 13 home runs and has a 50 RBI.

With the non-waiver trade deadline not coming until Monday afternoon, a lot may still happen and Lucroy could wake up in another team’s (not in his no-trade list) uniform.
