NBA News: Spurs expect Monty Williams to be a part of their team

Monty Williams is expected to be a part of the coaching staff of the San Antonio Spurs for the 2016-2017 NBA season.

Marc Stein of ESPN reported that Williams has been offered by the Spurs to a position in San Antonio. Monty is willing to accept the offer according to league sources.

His job in San Antonio is unclear at the moment based on the statement of Greg Popovich. This is because Greg wants Monty to be comfortable in whatever capacity he wants in the franchise.

Sources say that the Spurs have opened the door for Williams to either become a player developmental coach of the team or hold a front office position in San Antonio. The management wants Monty to choose his preferred job out of the two.

The former NBA player in the league might accept the offer. This is because he has in-laws living in San Antonio.

Back in February 2015, Monty suffered a devastating blow. It happened when he learned that his wife died in a tragic car accident. This news has made him left the Oklahoma City Thunder last season as an assistant coach for them.

The unfortunate event has also left him jobless in the NBA.

However, he still continued his work as an assistant coach for the USA basketball team this summer with the support of his in-laws who assists him with his five children that lost their mother.

But now that the Spurs offered him a job, this is a breath of fresh air for him. This is a good opportunity for him to improve his morale in his goal of becoming a much better person on and off the court.

There is also a source close to Williams that told ESPN that the 44-year-old still “absolutely” aims to be a head coach in the league.
